Reading Notes: Pattanaik's Seven Secrets of Vishnu Part E

Pattanaik's Seven Secrets of Vishnu Part E (Rama)

This chapter talks about Dharma and Adharma as well as Vishnu's avatars. Dharma is positive human interaction with nature and Adharma is negative human interaction with nature. Humans are able to go against the laws of the jungle (nature), and must choose to do this responsibly. Dharma can look different in different times and spaces. Dharma is balancing the utilization of nature without breaking it. Greed leads to Adharma. The earth suffers over-exploitation because of man's desire for material possessions, and therefore Adharma is reached. The earth cannot sustain humanity's desire for wealth. This chapter showed that it is important to balance culture and nature and know when togo against nature's law (i.e. altruism) and when to follow it.
