As someone who was highly motivated by grades and achievement, I loved this concept of a growth mindset. I love the idea of reminding kids that it's okay to fail. That failure is the main way we learn. I had never heard of Carol Dweck or the Growth Mindset before this assignment, but I absolutely agree with her approach to education. I also think it's important to equip parents (and anyone who has authority in a child's life) with the knowledge of a growth mindset. If more people were aware of this concept and actively implemented it into their lives, our world would be a much more satisfying, successful place. In high school, I was definitely negatively affected by my focus on grades. I didn't really want to learn, I wanted to get questions right. Because of that, I studied for tests, and then immediately forgot what I "learned." In college, I have done a better job at learning for the sake of learning, but I still wish I had been aware of this issue earlier on in my educational career. Dweck's videos made me want to encourage everyone I meet, no matter their age, to be okay with failure. To be excited by failure. To take failure as an amazing opportunity to succeed in the future.
