The Assignments: You Want Me to do What?
I don't think I could name one Indian Epic. Rudyard Kipling was an Indian author, right? But I don't think his works will be applicable to this course. But who knows. I sure don't. Not yet (Shoutout to Carol Dweck). That is one of the reasons I was so stoked about taking this class. I love stories. Watching them, listening to them, reading them. I'm excited to read stories that I've never heard of before based in a culture that I know little about. I think that the storytelling assignments will be very enjoyable for me. I think that trying to retell the stories will help me understand and remember what I've read. I had a similar assignment in high school that was just a blast and a half (We write and record our own version of Hamlet. It's still on youtube if anybody's interested. It's like 20 minutes long. And there's a blooper reel. Good Lord, me and my friends were weird.). I also think the extra credit assignments will be really cool. I love exploring wikipedia pages (remember, I was homeschooled for quite some time), so finding out I can actually get credit for that is a huge win for the team. The "Famous Last Words" assignment will also be a cool opportunity to reflect on and remember each week. I'm especially excited that this class is so loosely structured. I think it will be very beneficial to learn at my own pace, and have some say in what I get to do when. Too much of the educational experience is hyper-structured and specific. This will be a great chance to learn what, how, and when I want (at least to an extent). Hopefully I'm as excited about this class at the end of the semester as I am now.
