Reading Notes: Pattanaik's Seven Secrets of Vishnu Part D
Pattanaik's Seven Secret's of Vishnu Part D (Trivikarma)
Saraswati is knowledge/learning, contrasting Lakshmani's wealth. I really loved this part of the chapter. The author discussed the balance between knowledge and wealth. While Lakshmi brings prosperity, Saraswati brings peace. I thought that this point was especially relevant in today's culture because so often modern people seek prosperity at the cost of peace. The example from the Mahatbarata was a perfect illustration. The Pandavas sought wealth, and so strife came. But when they had nothing, they sought knowledge and in turn gained wisdom. When they had the chance to pursue Lakshmi again, they found the balance. I also like the contrast that this story brought up between what someone has and what someone is. The author made the point that in Maya, people too closely associate what they have with what they are, and this is not good.
