Reading Notes: Seven Secrets of Vishnu Part A

Pattanaik's Secret Secrets of Vishnu: Part A (Mohini)

This week, I chose to watch the Seven Secrets of Vishnu as told by Devdutt Pattanaik. The video read the chapters of the book aloud and provided images that corresponded with what was being discussed. Part 1 was about Mohini, the female incarnation of Vishnu. Mohini is important because Vishnu is almost exclusively seen as a male. Through this chapter/video, I learned that Mohini and Vishnu represent the material and spiritual realities, respectively. I had never heard of this concept before, and was intrigued by the idea. The video explained that spiritual growth and material growth are complimentary: you can't have one without the other. One point that the chapter made that I found interesting was the origin of why Mohini is physical and Vishnu spiritual. Pattanaik related this back to the fact that males give life outside of their bodies and females give life inside of their bodies. This correlated to the external spirituality and internal physical growth.
